Who does not like a good mystery? Based mystery films have always been and always will be beloved by moviegoers. A good Hollywood mystery with a solid history, a healthy dose of suspense, and a representation often violent crime is almost guaranteed to provide the viewer with a heaping portion of emotions and chills.
When it comes to classic mystery and suspense, director Alfred Hitchcock is legendary. His contributions to this genre films are almost equal in the history of cinema. One of the classic thrillers of Hitchcock's Rear Window, released in 1954. This film combines a murder mystery with an examination of personal ethics. James Stewart plays magazine photographer LB Jefferies, which is confined to his wheelchair following a broken leg.
To help pass the time, Jefferies watches its neighbors in the back window of his third-floor apartment. Directly across Live your apartment seller Lars Thorwald (Raymond Burr) and his bedridden wife. The two quarrel often. Not long before the tilt of the voyeurism it Jefferies convinced that Lars has been murdered and dismembered his wife. Rear Window is a classic mystery and suspense, and is widely considered one of the best of Hitchcock.
Another Hitchcock film that shows his ability to entertain with mystery is North by Northwest. Launched in 1959, the film features the classic concept of suspense mystery of mistaken identity involving a man guilty in espionage and murder. Advertising executive Roger Thornhill (Cary Grant) is a mistake to be an agent government and seized by two unknown men. After questioning Thornhill, his captors believe is a government agent named Kaplan unsuccessfully attempted murder.
When nobody believes her story, Thornhill find the real Kaplan proposes only to be implicated in the murder. Innocent man Roger Thornhill is being across the field pursued by the government, both his own, and representatives of an unknown organization. The film climaxes with a spectacular chase cornfield (cultivation famous scene of powder), and an impressive battle on Mount Rushmore.
The black film crime drama Murder, My Sweet led by Edward Dmytryk and based on Raymond Chandler's novel Farewell, My Lovely "was released in 1944. In the film, the detective Philip Marlowe (Dick Powell) is hired by Moose Malloy (Mike Mazurki), recently released from prison after serving seven years to locate his ex-girlfriend Velma (Claire Trevor). This work is easier said than done as lead after lead becomes a lie, bribery, theft, and dangerous black inevitable - the femme fatale. This film gave the actor Dick Powell a chance to change his screen image. Known primarily as a song and dance star, Powell's performance as the tough detective was a success.
Also from the genre of black film history, 1953 is tight and well produced The Hitch-Hiker, led by the black actress to become director Ida Lupino. This film is based in part on a true story. While on a fishing trip, a car driven by Roy Collins (Edmond O'Brien) accompanied by his friend Gilbert Bowen (Frank Lovejoy) stop to pick up a hitchhiker. This is not any hitchhiker. Emmett Myers (William Talman), who seems to be a stranded conductor, is in fact a psychopathic murderer. Myers orders to men to take to Baja California. Along the way, he makes fun of men sadistically them know exactly what has in store for them at the end of the trip.
Enjoy the powerful, terrifying, and poor performance of actor William Talman. This tag-line Motion Pictures says it all - "When was the last time you invited death into your car?
Black cinema is another mystery and suspense in the film classic gun for hire, based on a novel by author Graham Greene 'Gun for Sale ". The film stars Alan Ladd as Raven, hired a murderer who has been betrayed by nightclub owner Willard Gates (Laird Cregar). As the owner of the club, will soon discover, betray a hired murderer not a very good idea.
While on a train taking him to Gates, Raven meets nightclub magician and singer Ellen Graham (Veronica Lake) who is working with Detective Michael Crane (Robert Preston) to use Gates as a way of discovering who is making poison gas to the Japanese. Together they form an uneasy alliance against a common enemy. This film is credited with making a star Alan Ladd.
The years 1940 and 1950 are considered the "golden era" for films black film. These crimes of films were able to provide many of the mysteries and the classics of suspense that the audience wanted to see.
